For those who speak English as a second language things don't always come out right, but sometimes it comes out better than any American could say.
When I ask meet my students for the first time I always ask them why they left their homes, traveled thousands of miles, and wanted to learn how to fly. I get the answers you would expect...to go fast, to defend my country, my dad did it. I had one student though who responded, in perfect English, "To catch fun Ma'am."
When I asked him to repeat what he said, he repeated the exact same words. There was no miscommunication, no search for the right words. There were just three words that I have chose to live by since that day.
We each wake up in the morning, in a state of drowsiness, unknowing what the next 16-18hours will bring us. Often times we start the day with worry or even dread. We start with a list of things we didn't accomplish yesterday and combine that with things we need to do today. How many times do we wake up telling ourselves today, I'm going to be happy. Today I'm going to catch fun.
We each need to start our day off on the right foot and not let life bog us down. We each need to have that desire to catch whatever we deem to be fun. All of us have something we can be better at, but we cannot let our inadequacies deter us from getting there.
I ask you to join me on this adventure of life and self definition. There will be posts from multiple members of my family. Each one of us will have our own views on how to better life, in order to build each other and you, the reader, up.
I invite you to come catch fun with us.
